We'll respect both positive or negative election outcome - Ghana's president promises

Ghana’s incumbent president and candidate John Dramani Mahama has addressed his supporters on Friday afternoon promising to respect results from the Electoral Commission.

His speech is the first since the election after the ruling National Democratic Party supporters marched to his residence in Accra to meet their leader declared loser by local media per provisional results collated.

“I want to assure the nation that we will respect the outcome of the election, positive or negative. Let us just be calm, let us get the figures, let us do the comparison and let us be law abiding and God bless our homeland Ghana,” he promised.

Mahama also added that his team is collating figures from the Electoral Commission and comparing them with their figures, and that his supporters should remain calm.

“But don’t let your spirits be down at all; we are a great party and let’s wait for the EC to give us the figures, we will do a comparison and collation with what we have and then we will let the nation know,” he concluded.

Ghana’s local media has declared the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) leader Nana Akufo-Addo as winner of the election per their provisional figures corroborated by the opposition party’s figures.

The Electoral Commission announced Friday morning that it has results of over 200 constituencies and will declare the results on Saturday.
